ABOUT OUR SPEAKER Steve Byrne brings extensive experience in state and local government, with a proven track record in legislative strategy, public policy, and community leadership. His career spans roles as a government relations professional, Chief of Staff in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and elected official in his hometown of Arlington, Massachusetts. Steve began his public service career in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, serving as the first legislative aide and later Chief of Staff to current Telecommunications, Energy and Utilities Chairman Mark J. Cusack. In those roles, he helped shape legislative and budget priorities focused on emerging technology, energy, health care, insurance, and transportation, and contributed to the development of the House Committee on Technology and Intergovernmental Affairs. While working at the State House, Steve was elected as the youngest member of the Arlington Board of Selectmen and later served as Chairman, where he championed technological modernization, advanced local economic development initiatives, and implemented policies to improve government efficiency and community well-being. He later joined the Metropolitan Area Planning Council as a Government Relations Specialist, leading the agency’s legislative agenda and coordinating coalitions of municipal leaders to advance key policy and budget priorities. Steve holds a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Policy from Northeastern University and a bachelor’s degree in Government from Connecticut College.
