As California closes out another consequential legislative session, the nation will once again be watching Sacramento for signals on the future of housing, technology, climate policy, insurance, and economic regulation.

Join WASRG on Thursday, September 10 at 2:00 PM ET (11:00 AM PT) for a special Inside the Dome virtual event featuring California Assemblymember Heath Flora (R-09) and Edwin Borbon of Serlin Haley, LLP. Our speakers will provide an insider’s look at California’s legislative and political landscape following their September 1 adjournment, including the key issues and outcomes from the session and what comes next amid mounting fiscal pressures, ongoing affordability concerns, and continued national attention on the state’s policy agenda.

A FREE EVENT     |     WASRG MEMBERS ONLY

The WASRG Inside the Dome series invites in-state contract lobbyists to share intel on legislative sessions, elections and political dynamics with WASRG members.

    ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Assemblyman Heath Flora (R-09) represents California’s 9th Assembly District in the northern San Joaquin Valley, including the cities of Manteca and Lodi. First elected to the State Assembly in 2016, Flora is a lifelong farmer, small business owner and volunteer firefighter who previously worked for CAL FIRE, rising to the rank of Battalion Chief.

During his decade in the Legislature, Flora has served as Assembly Republican Leader and as vice chair of the Assembly Natural Resources and Labor & Employment committees, as well as on the Agriculture, Rules, and Business & Professions committees. Now serving his final term, his legislative work has included establishing a statewide firefighter apprenticeship program, expanding access to vital records, and addressing safety standards for electric motorized scooters.

Edwin Borbon brings a wealth of experience in California’s legislative landscape, with a career spanning both government service and advocacy. He spent six years in various roles with the California State Assembly, most recently serving as legislative director for Assemblymember Tasha Boerner (D-Encinitas). His career in California began as a scheduler and legislative assistant for multiple assemblymembers; he then worked his way up to key roles both as legislative director and as capitol director. Edwin also worked for a while in legislative advocacy for the Precision Advocacy Group, a Sacramento-based lobbying, public affairs and public relations firm. A California native, Edwin grew up in Bakersfield and earned his degree from the University of California, Davis. He now resides in Sacramento.
